My search for a new law firm was not a lengthy one. Having practiced labor and employment law at another mid-sized firm here in Indianapolis for the past 10 years, I was well aware of the growing stature of the Scopelitis firm. Like others in the legal community, I admired the careful growth of the Firm, as well as the national reputation that was being forged. Over the years, I had the pleasure of developing friendships with a number of Scopelitis attorneys. By the time I made the decision to move to another firm, Scopelitis was at the top of my list.
I was thrilled to join the Firm during the Summer of 2001, and the wisdom of my decision was immediately apparent. I have never met a group of lawyers as genuinely enthusiastic about the practice of law. While many firms struggle to cultivate the ideal working environment, Scopelitis appears to have achieved that goal almost effortlessly. It is the perfect combination of a relaxed work atmosphere and absolute perfectionism in work product. This atmosphere has fostered professional growth as well as personal friendships among an extremely talented group of lawyers.
Due to the Firm's national practice, my labor and employment practice has now extended beyond Indiana and the Midwest. I have greatly enjoyed the challenge of addressing client concerns on a national scale. I am also impressed with the Firm's commitment to the development of younger lawyers. This commitment extends not only to technical training to improve a lawyer's practice skills, but also to the inclusion of younger lawyers in virtually all aspects of the business of running a law firm. This free exchange of information and ideas clearly accelerates the development of younger lawyers in the Firm.
My impression of Scopelitis from afar proved very much on target. I often remind my colleagues that this unique work environment does not exist everywhere and should not be taken for granted. It has been a long time since I have had this much fun practicing law, which leads to the inevitable regret that I did not make the move earlier.
