

Ms. Hounshel leads the firm's Indiana workers’ compensation defense practice, regularly appearing before the Workers’ Compensation Board of Indiana. She also provides frequent employment law advice to employers on the interaction between the ADA, the FMLA, and workers’ compensation law and defends employers in employment discrimination and retaliatory discharge cases.

Carla R. Hounshel, a partner with the firm, litigates workers’ compensation issues on behalf of employers and counsels insurance adjusters and third-party administrators daily on the intricacies of the Indiana Workers’ Compensation Act. She also presents workers’ compensation seminars to insurance companies and third-party administrators several times each year. In addition, because employment issues outside the Workers’ Compensation Act often arise, she is well versed in various employment and labor issues and frequently litigates employment discrimination and retaliatory discharge claims.

Ms. Hounshel graduated from Vanderbilt University (B.A. magna cum laude, with Honors in History) and the Indiana University School of Law – Indianapolis (J.D., cum laude), where she served as Symposium Editor for the Indiana Law Review.

Admitted to the Indiana bar in 1996, Ms. Hounshel is licensed to practice before all Indiana federal and state courts. She participates in the Defense Trial Counsel of Indiana workers’ compensation section, is a member of the Indianapolis, Indiana State, and American Bar Associations and is an Indianapolis Bar Foundation Distinguished Fellow.
