Mr. Magiera concentrates his practice in the area of workers' compensation defense.
John S. Magiera regularly represents employers before the state Industrial Boards of Illinois and Wisconsin, with appropriate appeals to state circuit and appellate courts. He was formerly employed by Commonwealth Edison Company in Chicago as a supervising staff attorney overseeing the workers' compensation program of the then largest self-insured employer in the state and was also involved in the defense of personal injury and property claims. He later embarked on a 17-year period as a principal partner in his own litigation defense firm, primarily engaged in the defense of workers' compensation claims on behalf of major insurance companies and self-insured employers, before joining the Scopelitis firm in 2004.
Mr. Magiera graduated from Northwestern University (B.A.) and Lewis University College of Law (J.D.).
Admitted to the Illinois bar in 1979 and the Wisconsin bar in 2001, Mr. Magiera is licensed to practice before all state and federal courts in Illinois and Wisconsin. Mr. Magiera is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association.
