

Mr. Graves focuses his practice on the business needs of the transportation industry. In addition to 26 years of private commercial law practice, he has served in senior management of three different types of surface transportation companies - a major regional LTL general commodities carrier, a large national truckload carrier, and a logistics management and intermodal marketer.

James T. Graves, of counsel in the firm's Kansas City office, has practiced transportation law for over 47 years. Since his 1961 admission to practice before the Interstate Commerce Commission, he has continuously participated in the administration and litigation of cargo loss and damage claims involving surface transportation carriers. Mr. Graves has also had primary legal responsibility for motor carrier driver and equipment qualification and regulatory compliance for three transportation companies over the years. He has drafted more than 150 transportation services agreements involving shippers, carriers, brokers and warehousemen to facilitate various elements of logistics and supply chain management projects. In addition, he has represented clients in many trials, arbitrations, and mediations and is a certified mediator. Other areas in which Mr. Graves has significant experience include bankruptcy law, corporate governance and business organizations, employment law, and real estate law.

Mr. Graves graduated from Kansas State University (B.S. with honors) and the University of Kansas Law School (J.D. with distinction) where he served as an associate editor of the University of Kansas Law Review.

Admitted to the Kansas bar in 1961 and the Missouri bar in 1993, Mr. Graves is licensed to practice before all state and federal courts in Kansas and Missouri.
