Testimonial Details

Interviewing potential summer associates is so important to the Scopelitis attorneys, they ALL do the interviewing. In fact, I was asked to visit the office a second time to meet attorneys I missed during my first visit. Meeting every single attorney in an office sounds daunting. However, within minutes of meeting this amazing group of individuals, my interviews became conversations with people I truly enjoyed. I wanted to get to know all of them just as much as they wanted to know me.
As a summer associate, I had the opportunity to work with each SGLH&F attorney. Throughout the summer, my assignments were meaningful, and I felt like an integral part of the cases and projects upon which I worked. I actually had contact with clients, other lawyers and representatives from various government agencies. Due to the national nature of the firm's transportation practice, I learned about the varying interpretations of several legal issues among the 48 contiguous states. Probably most importantly, I received valuable feedback on each of the projects I completed. This process not only permitted the SGLH&F attorneys to learn more about my skills, but also caused me to respect and admire their expertise even more. Each one is so knowledgeable and willing to share that knowledge. I can honestly say that I felt comfortable going to any attorney in the firm with a question or concern.

One unique aspect of the SGLH&F summer associate experience was the fact that we were invited to attend monthly attorney meetings, marketing meetings, and the attorney retreat at Norm Garvin's house. During these meetings, we, as summer associates, were exposed to financial information and firm culture issues that many firms do not even share with their young associates. I had no idea what an open-door policy was until working at SGLH&F.

At the end of the summer, I took away friendships, the anticipation of going back to SGL&H as an associate in 2002, and a feeling of extreme pride in the firm and its future. Every time I recognize one of our client's tractor-trailers on the road I am reminded of and thrilled by SGL&H's widespread and unique practice. That's just one of the many reasons I accepted an offer from the firm (before I even read the specifics, I might add). I am certain I will learn a lot from these attorneys, and not just about practicing law. The partners have a proactive vision and business plan for the firm's future. Everyone seems genuinely happy, fulfilled and well-rounded.
